Overview
The FSU Department of Mathematics fosters innovative, transformative thinking by offering a wide range of majors and research opportunities. Faculty, with expertise in a wide range of topics in the traditional areas of pure and applied mathematics, as well as in the interdisciplinary areas of biomathematics and financial mathematics, support students through in-depth coursework and a range of research opportunities. The department prepares students for mathematics-related jobs in industry, finance, insurance, government, or teaching, or for graduate school.
Degree Programs
A bachelor's degree in mathematics or actuarial science provides undergraduate students the option to choose from four majors. Students are equipped for graduate school and careers across sectors.
Research Opportunities
There are numerous research opportunities available for undergraduates, including the Directed Reading Program, Honors in the Major, paid research opportunities, and summer undergraduate research programs. Advanced students may arrange Directed Individual Study (DIS) and Honors Thesis projects with individual faculty members by contacting them directly.
